During the morning, it was an ordinary day: we had Spanish, Maths, Arts and English classes. But after school, about 17:00 we left Milford to go see Celtics Games, a basketball game in Boston. The teams were Celtics vs NY Knicks. The Celtics won 101-61. It was a great afternoon. After that experience, we went back to the school, where the families brought us home.

New Port: Tuesday, 16th October
In October 16th, we left school at 7:15 to go to New Port. There, we could visiti two big houses: Breakers and Rosecliff. The Breaker’s house was like a big castle, but Rosecliff’s house was smaller. Then we had lunch and went to visit the City. This city had a beautiful port. About 15:00 we returned to school.
Breaker’s house: is a Vanderbilt mansion located on Ochre Point Avenue, Newport. It is a National Historic Landmark, and is owned and operated by the Preservation Society of Newport County. The Breakers was built as the Newport summer home of Cornelius Vanderbilt II, a member of the wealthy United States Vanderbilt family. Designed by renowned architect Richard Morris Hunt and with interior decoration by Jules Allard and Sons and Ogden Codman, Jr., the 70-room mansion boasts approximately 65,000 sq. ft. of living space. The home was constructed between 1893 and 1895 at the then-astronomical cost of more than seven million dollars (approximately $150 million in today’s dollars adjusted for inflation). The Ochre Point Avenue entrance is marked by sculpted iron gates and 30-foot high walkway gates are part of a twelve-foot-high limestone and iron fence that borders the property on all but the ocean side. The 150′ x 120′ dimensions of the five-story mansion are aligned symmetrically around a central Great Hall.Part of the house is on the seagirt cliffs of Newport, it sits in a commanding position that faces east overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
Rosecliff’s house: was built 1898-1902, is one of the Gilded Age mansions of Newport, now open to the public as a museum. It was built by Theresa Fair Oelrichs, a silver heiress from Nevada, whose father James Graham Fair was one of the four partners in the Comstock Lode. She was the wife of Hermann Oelrichs, American agent for Norddeutscher Lloyd steamship line. She and her husband, together with her sister, Virginia Fair, bought the land in 1891 from the estate of George Bancroft, and commissioned the architectural firm of McKim, Mead, and White to design a summer home suitable for entertaining on a grand scale. With little opportunity to channel her considerable energy elsewhere, she “threw herself into the social scene with tremendous gusto, becoming, with Mrs. Stuyvesant Fish and Mrs. O.H.P. Belmont, one of the three great hostesses of Newport.” The principal architect, Stanford White, modeled the mansion after the Grand Trianon of Versailles, but smaller and reduced to a basic “H” shape, while keeping Mansart’s scheme of a glazed arcade of arched windows and paired Ionic pilasters, which increase to columns across the central loggia. White’s Rosecliff adds to the Grand Trianon a second storey with a balustraded roofline that conceals the set-back third storey, containing twenty small servants’ rooms and the pressing room for the laundry.

New York: 22th October
That day, we woke up early because we had to see the Statue of Liberty and the MOMA (Modern Museum of Art). At 10:00, we were queuing to go to the Statue of Liberty by boat, that is the only way to arrive. There, we stayed 45 minutes. I bought some gifts in the shop. After that, we went to eat something and finally, we went to the MOMA. It was nice but we had a little time to see it. We arrived to Milford at 22:oo. I think, it has been a nice experience to remember.

New York: Sunday 21st October
I think it was the day that we were waiting.
At 6:30 we had to stayed at school to leave to New York but someone felt aslept and we left at 7:30. It was a hard, long travel. We arrived to New York at 12:00, we ate near Rockeffeler Center and we went shopping. After eating, a leader came with us in the bus to show us the City. We could see the Empire State Building, the Central Park, the Grade zero, the Dacota Building, the place where the widow of John Lennon lives, Harleem, China town… In the Central Park, we saw the word “Imagine” in the soil, in honor to John Lennon. After that, we went to the Wellington hotel to take a shower and at 18:00 we went to saw the musical called Mary Poppins. It was a great musical with a lot of special effects. Finally, we went to eat in Times Square and at 24:00 we came back to the hotel.
It was a nice day.

Saturday 20th in the Halloween’s party
On Saturday, we had the Halloween’s party in the Portuguese Club.
The party started at 19:00, althought Mabell and I arrived at 20:00 because she was working. Mabell wore a costum of Vampire and I, a japanese costum. It was a great party with music and typical Halloween’s food.
One of the most funny things in the party, was when we had to cut the pumpkins. Then, when we finished to cut them, someone switched off the lights and put a candle into the pumpkins. It was wonderful.
The party finished at 22:00 and everybody went to sleep because next day we had to travel to New York.
